You know those reports of UFO sightings, crop circles and alien abductions? We’re told they’re just weather balloons, hallucinations and pranks. But, what if they’re not? Think about it, there are movies, books, websites, TV shows and even a secret branch of the FBI dedicated to investigating alien conspiracies and paranormal activity.* We’ve been waiting to make “first contact” with extraterrestrial life for so long, but what if we’ve already made contact? What if Mulder and Scully were right? What if the UFO crash sites, the abductions, the government cover-ups are real?! Well, if so, I got one thing to say about that: ROAD TRIP!
There are several major UFO crash sites along the Extraterrestrial Highway: Ely, NV, Kingman, AZ, Aztec, NM, Santa Fe, NM and Carlsbad, NM.
One of the coolest roadside attractions along this route is the Black Mailbox (though it’s now actually white, but black just sounds so much cooler). This mailbox (along Nevada State Route 375) is a popular landmark from which to spot UFOs near Area 51.
If you get hungry or need a place to sleep for the night, pull over at the Little A’le’inn, a bar, restaurant and motel. Here you can order the “Alien burger” and learn about Area 51. There’s also the Area 51 Research Center in the same town, though it’s closed you may still be able to snap a cool shot of the yellow trailer that investigated Area 51 alien cover-ups. Another delicious UFO-themed diner is the Red Planet Diner in Sedona, AZ.
Finally, learn about the government’s cover-up of the Roswell crash at the UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell, NM. Don’t forget to pick up your souvenir alien t-shirt at the Alien Zone store!
Check out the road trip here (feel free to add places to your bucket lists and explore some of the other cool offbeat places around America!):
*We reached out to the FBI and – surprise, surprise – they denied the existence of a secret branch dedicated to investigating paranormal activity.
